Destinations to Consider – Madrid, SpainOct 06, 2017
Madrid, the capital of Spain since the 16th Century, is a modern-day metropolis bursting with history, culture, art, sport and much much more.
As one of the best-connected cities in Europe, Madrid offers itself as a fantastically convenient city to hold a meeting. At only 13 km west of the city centre is Adolfo Suarez International Airport which operates direct flights to more than 180 destinations including direct flights to North and South America along with many Middle Eastern and Asian hub cities.
Madrid has many hotels suitable for meetings and events, with most of them offering large amounts of sleeping rooms and meeting space, guaranteed to accommodate all your participants. Particularly good are the selection of four star hotels which are always well-priced.
If you have the opportunity to take your event off-site in Madrid, or if you (or your participants) decide to extend your stay in the capital, there are plenty of sights to see and places to go. Madrid’s many magnificent public spaces are destinations unto themselves. With one of the favourites being Plaza Mayor: Madrid’s vast main square which is very popular with tourists and locals alike, originally a bull fighting venue, now full of cafes spilling out onto the squares terraces (TIP: Try a calamari sandwich and a cold beer at one of these cafes). Next to Plaza Mayor is Puerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun) which is Madrid’s most famous open place and also the location of Madrid’s most famous symbol: 'El Oso y El Madroño “The Bear and the Strawberry Tree” which is a must-do photo opportunity!
Foodies won’t be disappointed in Madrid, the hotels provide a fantastic selection of Spanish delicacies but do be sure to make time to sample Madrid’s fabled tapas, ham, seafood and other delights. Every other storefront, as well as Madrid’s hundreds of cafés, bars and restaurants offer something tempting so you won’t have to walk far from your hotel to sample a real bit of Madrid.
Madrid experiences extremely hot temperatures in July and August. The best months to visit are, without doubt, September – June where the city enjoys long, sunny days.
In short, Madrid should be on your lists of Destinations to Consider for your next Meeting!
